The Cost of Old Equipment

I was reading a study on the benefits of keeping your computer equipment up-to-date. Of course this is something that piqued my interest since we sell new computers. But it also piqued my interest from a business equipment side of things knowing that I need to be mindful of our own computers here at the shop as well.

I was amazed to find out how much anything over 4 years old starts to hurt the bank account in repairs. It is estimated to cost upwards of $1700 per year in maintenance, repairs, and lost productivity compared to a new device. Thankfully the computers we custom build are built a little tougher than your average consumer brand PC so I’m sure that can be stretched a year or two past 4 on the repair side of things. But of equal importance for an old computer is the lack of security. As computers and their operating systems get older, the creator of that operating system (both Microsoft and Apple) stop supporting them. Keeping your systems within the 4 year age range insures they’ll cost you less in maintenance and productivity, and will keep you safer as well.

Recently we signed up with HP and Lenovo (which is in addition to already being resellers for Acer, ASUS, and Samsung). We did this to be able to provide our business customers with continuity and standardization. If your business is interested in upgrading your old equipment please let us know and we’ll be happy to help you out.  209-599-1500
