How Your Smartphone Photos Put You at Risk

If you are like me, you use your smartphone to do everything. This also includes taking photos of just about everything including my kids! But did you know that by doing this, you are putting yourself and possibly your kids at risk? I’m not the type to attempt to make people scared when they shouldn’t be, but this is something that we all should be alarmed about.

Have you ever heard of geotagging? It essentially means that with every smartphone photo you take, your location is being added to the photo’s information. This is great if you want to always remember where you took your photos! It is not so great if you want to keep your home, child’s daycare, or the parks you frequently visit private from possible online stalkers.

10 Ways to Be On Your Best Behavior…Email Style

Email is a very substantial aspect of most everyone’s life. It is such a great way to communicate so many different things.  Whether you use it to send family updates, daily jokes, business correspondence, or newsletters, it is cheap and quick!  But there are some things that people either don’t know or just don’t think about when sending out their emails.  Hopefully we can tackle some of those things in this list.

Cutting the Cords

It is becoming more and more popular to toss your paid subscription to satellite and cable companies and either going back to the antenna or moving to internet based TV.  Some, like me, are doing both!

I am a self-made expert in this subject since I am one of the many who have jumped ship and cut the cords!

I decided that I didn’t need all of the extra channels and costs involved with my satellite dish.  I am a huge NFL fan and was getting the Sunday Ticket which showed every game that was being played.

Time to Change Your Internet?

It is great to have options when it comes to Internet service providers.  Locally our high-speed providers are Charter Cable, Verizon DSL, Clear, Comcast Cable, and AT&T (along with the various wireless phone carriers that offer mobile broadband).  Each provider offers similar features but a variety of speeds. Most providers give you free email and sometimes they’ll throw in a security package at no extra charge.

Have You Given Up On Google+?

Chances are you’ve heard of the new social networking site by Google called Google+.  But it is also likely you either haven’t tried it because you are happy with facebook or you’ve tried it and are having trouble finding your friends on it!  Well join the crowd!

I see Google+ as a different beast than Facebook.  I see G+ as something that will allow groups of people with similar interests to connect to each other.   Circles is a new creation by Google that you’ll probably start seeing creep up in other areas such as android phones and I’ve already seen it a little on GMail which are Google’s mobile operating system and Google’s popular email program.  Circles allow you to put people in different categories or groups and post messages that only those groups can see.

An Honest Comparison Between Mac and Windows

I have to confess, I’ve been part of, and even started many “which is better” debates. I’ve been an owner of both types and fix both types as well so I feel that I can give an honest and credible review or comparison of each. Today I want to look at four main categories to compare. Each category is what we typically hear users mention when discussing the pros and cons of each.

10 Free Apps that Every Computer Should Have

If you know me well, you know that I’m a big proponent of “free”.  Over the years, I’ve spent hours and hours scouring the web finding free software for just about every need.  From bookkeeping software to super powerful digital image editing, it is out there…and FREE!

Here is my list of MUST HAVE software for your computer!

Why Call a Geek When You Can Call an Expert?

People often ask me exactly what I am trying to say in my slogan, “Why Call a Geek When You Can Call an Expert?”.  The word geek is actually something that all computer people attempt to achieve so from our perspective there is nothing wrong with it. You can be an 11 year old geek or even younger. But what our customers want is to bring their computer to a computer expert and that is what you get at Heida Computers.

Obviously I have been here since I opened in 2004 and Sam, my shop manager, started here a few months later.  We both have many years of experience in the computer repair industry.  I had done this for about 8 years prior to opening up Heida Computers and Sam had spent years in the chip manufacturing industry as well as repairing computers prior to coming on board here.

There is nothing wrong with my competitors employing geeks but most are temporary. Here, we know that our customers want stability in who they bring their computer to and that is what you will always get from us!
