What Does Memorial Day Mean to Me?

What does Memorial Day mean to you? Is it putting out your flag because that’s what everyone does? Is it barbecuing with friends and having an extra day off? Is it swimming in the pool or taking your first vacation of the year?

Often we get caught up in taking holiday breaks and we often forget what the holiday is all about. There are several holidays throughout the year that I could care less about but Memorial Day and Veterans Day are definitely two that I think we need to remember for more than just spending time with friends and family.

So what does Memorial Day mean to me?

May 21 – The Beginning of the End

Well May 21 came and once again Harold Camping was wrong.  He studied the Bible so much that he failed to read Mark 13:32-33

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.”

There are multiple verses like this one but apparently he was too busy with his “mathematical equation” to see the rest of the Bible.

You may already know that Harold Camping isn’t a stranger to failed predictions.  Back in 1992 he wrote a book called “1994?”.  In it, Camping predicted that the world would end on September 6, 1994.  After 9/6/1994 came and went he admitted to calculating wrong but said it wouldn’t happen again.  The May 21, 2011 prediction was the real deal.

So since May 21, 2011 ended up not being the beginning of the end of the world, will it prove to be the beginning of the end for Camping?  No doubt Camping made a lot of money from the build up of this false prediction.  More >
